Behavior Modifications
Reinforcing Positive Behavior
Special Education K-8 School in Ridgewood NJ
As a special education K-8 school in Ridgewood NJ, we assist our students in achieving successful outcomes across multiple settings by combining a continuum of interventions that promote teaching and supporting positive behaviors.
Our behavior program helps each student achieve his/her maximum social and emotional growth. Through positive reinforcement, students become aware of their behavioral outcomes. This motivates student to develop more appropriate coping skills and therefore learn better ways to conduct themselves across multiple settings, encouraging both academic and behavioral improvements. As a result, students experience a sense of self awareness, responsibility and achievement.
The behavior modification program encompasses a point system by which students earn points for meeting academic and behavioral expectations. These points translate into a placement on our three-tiered level system which provides for additional privileges. These privileges may include athletics, field trips, and community service activities.
In addition, “earned points” are redeemable at the school store. Students can spend points weekly or save them for a more valuable item. Our store is fully stocked with a wide variety of items including games, clothes, and electronics. Purchasing items from the school store allows our students to experience the rewards of hard work.
